Ryu is a Street Fighter, a warrior of great skill and strength, who travels the world in search for new challenges to his abilities. His legendary fighting skills haven't escaped the attention of Bison, the Head of Shadowlaw, a major organized crime Syndicate. By using his Psycho Power, he plans to turn Ryu into a mindless puppet, a tool which shall help him to fulfill his evil plans. His Monitor Cyborgs, robots designed to find Street Fighters and rate their fighting abilities, have been unable to find him yet, since he never stays in one place for long periods of time. Meanwhile, Interpol and the US Air Force are working together to destroy Shadowlaw. They know that Bison uses Street Fighters to carry out his plans, so Chun Li, an Interpol Investigator and Guile, Captain in the US Air Force try to warn or, if at all possible, prevent Bison from abducting even more Street Fighters. They believe that Ken Masters might be Bison's next target, since he is the All-American Martial Arts Champion. And they are right: A Monitor Cyborg happens to observe Ken in a fight, and his fighting style is nearly identical to Ryu´s style. Further investigations prove that Ken trained together with Ryu at the same Dojo. Reason enough for Bison to abduct Ken and subject him to his Psycho Power. Interpol manages to find the connection between Ken and Ryu as well and they are even able to locate Ryu's whereabouts. Not knowing that Bison is following him, Guile travels to Thailand, where Ryu is believed to be. The showdown begins...

What can I say about Street Fighter that you don't already know? I don't think that there is still someone who hasn't either played or heard of the game. Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie is like a dream come true for the fans of the game. You are going see most of the characters from the games, as well as most of their signature moves, like Ryu´s Fireball and Ken´s Whirlwind Kick. I have to admit thats it's hard to stay objective since I have been a big Street Fighter fan since I first played the game on my SNES. This is a must-buy for all Street Fighter and martial art fans. Any reason, for those few who don't know the game to buy this Anime? Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie features the best animation I have ever seen. The choreography is awesome, and the fights will keep you staring wide-eyed at your TV´s screen. The music is very good. It always fits the current scene and never gets boring or disturbing. Some people will say that the story is quite simple and straight-forward. I do in fact agree with this, but a more complicated story would have produced breaks between the non-stop action of this anime, taking away a lot of its fascination. The only weak point I could find is that the story concentrates too much on Ryu and Ken. I would have liked to see more of the other characters, but to fit them all in the same anime and give them more emphasis would have been impossible. I guess that's what the TV series are for... - GS, 98-08-04
